Dan's School of Etiquette

Apparently, it's okay to take a nap while we have GUESTS in our HOME! To his defense, he did take a Sudafed which he emphasizes caused MARKED drowsiness. He was just resting his eyes, then passed out fully clothed under the covers!

Obama rally

Obama spoke in downtown Portland today and we thought it would be cool to check it out. People suggested we get there early for the 2:30 rally, so we thought we'd be okay by showing up at noon. But when we got downtown we were met with a line that spanned 28 city blocks and took us three hours to get through. So in the 80 degree heat and under clear blue skies we waited, walked, waited some more and walked some more. We started with the idea that'd we would take a picture of the most interesting thing on each block. Though Portland is really weird, we didn't take 28 pictures. But there are definitely some interesting and comical things in this town.

The event was at Waterfront Park, yet the line meandered all the way to the South Park blocks where we started (after much effort trying to find where the line ended!)

The guy in the red shirt cut in line and was accosted by a man repeatedly trying to get a mob worked up to beat him down. Portlanders are too chill for that though. He left the line on his own later.

These flyers were being distributed in line by a woman who had plastered her car in them. You can click on the image to read the whole thing regarding how this woman was supposedly kidnapped by CIA agents and implanted with a RFID chip in her tear ducts in retaliation for reporting money missing from a nonprofit being used to funnel money to the CIA for pro-Nazi criminal terrorist activities (yes, I know that's a runon sentence). She also claims she is continuously stalked by the CIA...yet they let her distribute these all through downtown Portland. Interesting, eh?
Gotta love this town.

 

Obama's campaign claims this rally was the largest for him in the country. There were 75,000 people there!

Snowboarding - last time this season

I'm sad the snowboarding season is over, but now we get to look forward to training for Hood to Coast in August which is going to be really hard and some may say even "fun." I'm still trying to figure out how running 3 legs of 3-7 miles within 48 hours in August heat is "fun"...

Anyway, here's the pictures I stole from Minh and Jake's blog (thanks guys!). Someday Dan and I will be fancy enough to have one of those cool slim cameras we can take snowboarding, but in the meantime we'll just steal photos from our friends.

Pooja and Minh tackled Heather Canyon for the first time. (Dan would want me to tell you that he has done it a few times already) It's a double black diamond which means it's steep and only for the "experts." Okay, so it took us to get a while down after the sheer steepness frigtened the crap out of us, but we conquered that sucker!
